The Clerk role and the value they present to an organization is often misunderstood by politicians, staff and the community. You know your value, as a former Clerk I know your value but what strategies can you use to demonstrate that value to your organization?

Hi everyone, with the webinar tomorrow, I invite you to start thinking about questions or personal experiences you have both positive and negative that you would like to discuss during the session. With Clerks from more than 45 states/provinces attending, we won't be able to get to them all in during the presentation, but we hope this forum will lead to some valuable conversation nonetheless!

Sahuarita (AZ): "Do you report directly to the City Council or a City Administrator? What do you see as the drawbacks and advantages to your reporting structure?"

Anonymous: "I used to be really confident in my leadership abilities, and then I started my municipal job. Since then, I have been made to feel smaller than small, like just a peon and not very important at all by the Town Manager."

Southgate (ON): "How do you deal with a Mayor that does not accept procedural guidance which causes ineffective meetings?"

Mountlake Terrace (WA): "Sherry, can you share Mary Lynne Stratta's quote with us?"

Anonymous: "It is frustrating to think that we need to explain our job roles to senior managers when it would be unheard of for the head of Engineering or Planning to have to do the same."
